Why didn't I order any Heather Ross Goldfish in Bags when it was a reasonable thing to do so?
I absolutely refuse to pay $20 + shipping for one yard of fabric.

Scrap happy

Do more with less, right? Isn't that what's at the top of everyone's list these days? I'm trying to do something with all the scraps I have lying around the house. Here are some solutions!

Merry Solstice!
I am pretty sick today. I think I've perhaps got strep throat? I was feeling fine this morning, but now I can hardly swallow!
My brother reports that all that mess is cleared up now. :)

Argh. Fabric for trade?
Jun. 17th, 2008 | 10:06 am
I bought a yard of Japanese fabric from someone on another message board. I guess I assumed it was quilting cotton weight since it just said 100% cotton, but this is actually home dec. weight. I was going to make wipes from it, but it's too stiff. :(
I have *no* idea how to use it now. I just found it on superbuzzy. I prewashed it hoping it would soften up, but it really hasn't at all. It's a little over a yard -- like 41" I think? I'd have to measure for sure.
It won't match my kitchen at all. It matches my bathroom (which is why I bought it) and I really wanted to make some cute wipes. GRRRR.
Does anyone want it? Trade?
If anyone's interested, I also have 2 yards of Robert Kaufman "Lucky Girl" stripe stretch twill that I was going to make a pouch sling out of... unfortunately I already cut up the fabric I was going to use as a lining to make pants -- and now Sullivan really isn't interested in being in slings anyway.
I seriously need to destash somehow.

It's hard to justify spending the money on expensive fabrics from the ritzy quilt shop, but after sewing up that last set of pads for myself and seeing how they wash and wear...
I totally get it.
Now I just need more monies to spend on fabrics. :(

The purge - on pukka
Jun. 13th, 2008 | 01:00 am
Aaron has been blogging about our purge. Basically we're just trying to go through our whole house-full of stuff and get rid of things that aren't really important to us.
I've amassed a huge collection of weird vintage stuff, so I'm going to sell it off on pukka.etsy.com.
I've already listed some goodies -- a flask and a camera, a purse, etc. I have a TON of cameras to get through. Anyway, keep it in mind and tell your friends if they're into vintage stuff.
It's one in the morning. I've been up all night making a gift for myself. I'll post pics in the morning :)

weekend bounty
Jun. 2nd, 2008 | 09:01 am
I didn't get much sewing done because I ended up painting my sewing desk. I've got a bunch of stuff piled up to work on though... and now THIS.
The pictures don't do these fabrics justice. They're just very, very lovely. 100% more colorful than the last batch. And I did a BUNCH.

I'm dying fabric today. Any requests or dedications? I'm thinking purple and green and brown maybe?

I made these this morning using these masterful instructions -- except I used Jiffy Grip on the bottom. They're cool! I obviously need better pinking shears though.

Aaron suspects he's gluten intolerant. Or lactose intolerant (but not cheese? WTF?) and perhaps bean and SOY intolerant.
Listening to him whine and moan about his GI upsets but not taking an active interest in SOLVING anything, I suspect I'm developing a husband intolerance.

I've had a bunch of strange highs and lows today. We did a lot of cleaning around the house and went to my parents house to drop off the dog. We did some shopping -- we all got new swim suits. I got a pretty cute one, I think (or it may be horrendous, I have terrible taste in clothes). I also got a sundress and while I like it a lot, it's a little strappy to just wear around comfortably, so I cut into some yellow gauze I had lying around and made a little bolero/shrug/shawl thing. I actually made it WAAAAY too big, but I'm terrible about figuring out what size I am. I think I could shear off a good two inches all the way around this thing and still be baggy. I may reconstruct it later this week.

Fabric Enabler Alert!!!

An amazingly beautiful treasury of original printed fabric made it to the front of etsy today.
This is NOT the treasury to click to if you're on the fabric wagon...
